stupid landlords & moving.... again.

On Saturday we found out from our landlords that we've rented from for 3 yrs that we would need to be finding a new place to live unless we were willing to buy this house from them.
Dont get me wrong, it is a great house but home ownership in this recession? Doesnt exactly scream smart to me just because Uncle Sam states you'll get $8000 back.
The fact that they are only giving us til this Friday to give our answer when we just found out a couple days ago doesnt help matters much. How does one decide in a weeks time about the possibility of taking the ultimate plunge in home ownership? Not to mention, its a huge commitment, 30 year loan. 30 years in that same house unless you sell it (and thats even if you can sell it). It makes me nauseous just thinking about it.
I want a home, a nice, permanent home but I want it on my terms and not backed into a corner "take it or else" approach- which is exactly what they are doing.
We decided that we will let them know we arent interested and they can proceed... we will do the same. In fact, we already are. Also, on Saturday we decided to go check out some homes for sale (you know, we figured we may as well weigh our options and see what would be the better route for us) and we found some places that could work for us. Whether we actually fill out loan papers to see what our chances are is another story.
We're also looking into finding some rentals. Its hard to find good quality homes here. Everyone wants a lot for a lot of crap. This place we found at the time was diamond in the rough. I can only hope we get lucky again.
We rented a storage unit and started hauling out things from the crawlspace since when we give them our decision that will only give us 2 months to be out of here.
It would figure all this would go down after we moreless blew our tax money. The long gone tax money could've helped us with a deposit + rent but, ahh well, we'll figure something out, we always do.
This move would also be a good time to get the hell out of Kentucky. I wont even pretend to lie when I say I hate it here. I was ready to leave the year after I arrived. I wish the fella and daughter agreed with me. :(
